With modern AI tools at their disposal, scammers no longer need to break into a company’s systems to steal your information. Instead, they just need to impersonate a company well enough to convince you to trust them.
Since these types of scams are unfortunately becoming more prevalent, we want to show you how to recognize phishing emails that may be impersonating companies you do business with to try to steal your login credentials.
Fortunately, Anytime Mailbox systems are secure and free of cyberbreaches. There are, however, cyberscams currently trending where bad actors outside of companies copy a company’s name, look, and routine notifications to trick people into handing over passwords and other personal information.
In the spirit of being as proactive as possible, here’s how to spot this type of scam and what to do if you’re ever unsure.
How These Scams Work
Phishing attempts impersonating Anytime Mailbox tend to follow a familiar pattern:
- You receive an email designed to look like a routine Anytime Mailbox notification — something such as a new mailbox application to review, or an action request on your account.
- The message creates a sense of urgency, encouraging you to act immediately.
- It includes a button or link inviting you to “approve,” “check,” or “verify” something right away.
- That link leads to a login page built to look exactly like ours, sometimes right down to the footer, navigation, and contact details.
The uncomfortable truth is that a scam page can copy almost everything about how a website looks. And that’s exactly why appearance alone is never enough to prove an email or page is real.
5 Red Flags to Watch For
- Sender address looks off. Double-check that the sender’s domain matches what you’d expect from an Anytime Mailbox communication. Hover over or tap the sender’s name to see the full address before you trust the message.
- Generic greeting or content. We sometimes use general greetings such as “Dear Customer/Partner,” so that by itself isn’t proof of legitimacy. The real tell is a message that’s vague, has no specific account or mailbox details, or has a leftover placeholder such as “[First Name]” that was never filled in.
- Urgent, act-now language. Messages that pressure you to act immediately are designed to stop you from taking a few moments to think about if the message is legitimate.
- A login link inside the email. Caution should be taken prior to clicking a login link within an email. One method to assure safety is to verify by logging in directly through our official portal/dashboard.
- Everything appears exactly right. Unfortunately, that’s not proof it’s not fraudulent. A convincing counterfeit site can match our site’s look and feel almost exactly. The one thing it can’t fake, however, is the web address in your browser’s address bar.
What Anytime Mailbox Will Never Ask You to Do
- We will never ask for sensitive account, identity, or payment information out of the blue by email or phone. And always keep in mind that any application, action request, or account update can always be reviewed directly in your Partner Dashboard by manually logging in at the official Anytime Mailbox platform.
- We will never ask you to urgently click a specific link in an email. It’s good practice to always be cautious about entering your password after clicking a link from any unexpected or suspicious email, from Anytime Mailbox or any other company. When in doubt, skip the link and instead go directly to the Anytime Mailbox site instead.
If You Clicked a Link or Entered Your Credentials
- Using the official website or app, change your Anytime Mailbox password immediately. Do not click any link in the email that raised your concern.
- If you use that same password on any other accounts, change it there as well. Reused passwords are one of the easiest ways one compromised login turns into several.
- Check your account for anything unfamiliar, then report it through our official Support channels. Our team will escalate to Cybersecurity if further review is needed.
Acting quickly is the best thing you can do, and reporting it helps us protect other customers and partners too.
